Japan's first full-scale office furniture exhibition "ORGATEC TOKYO 2022" was held from April 26th to 28th at Tokyo Big Sight South Hall 1 and 2 in Koto-ku, Tokyo. 63 companies and more than 80 brands from 8 countries in Japan and overseas exhibited, and 21,958 people visited in 3 days, exceeded the initial forecast of 20,000 people. The breakdown of the exhibitors is 47 companies from Japan and 16 companies from overseas.
ORGATEC from Germany with a history of 69 years was held for the first time in Japan. While home-based work became widespread due to the spread of COVID-19 infection, the ideal way of working in the office was questioned so proposals for new working styles and " the offices that make you want to go to work" were conspicuous.
Architectural designers and building developers came to the venue, and office design proposals gathered together. In addition, the quarantine restriction was lifted, so it was crowded with more than 7,000 visitors every day. "I'm glad to exhibit here, I have new encounters." some of the exhibitors said.
The results of "Best Presentation AWARD", which was judged and commended for the excellent booth design and expression method were announced on the first day, 26th. The KOKUYO booth, which has the image of a colorful amusement park got the Grand Prix Award. Otsu, Cassina Ixc, and Tesera brand booths were selected for the Semi-Grand Prix Awards.
The judges were architect Sousuke Fujimoto, Mazda's global design manager Ikuo Maeda, and brand director of "ELLE DECOR" (Hearst Digital Japan) Ryuko Kida.
At the award ceremony, Ms. Kida, the chairman of the judging committee,commented, "Both KOKUYO and Cassina were wonderful and it was difficult to judge. As the first award of ORGATEC TOKYO, KOKUYO was awarded to support the energy to change."
Regarding Cassina Ixc, "It was a highly complete exhibition that makes a wave in the standard of the current office. All judges were convinced with the wonderful exhibition method that beautifully shows the development of both Ixc, unique to Japan and the direct message from Italy. " said Ms. Kida.
"At the next event, we will focus on attracting visitors from overseas if the situation permits and strengthen our position as an information dissemination center in Tokyo." the organizer said. The next event will be held from April 26th to 28th in 2023.
